Six choruses celebrate

"Welcome dear guests here with us," sang the singing club liederkranz 1843 prichsenstadt at the funeral. From schlusselfeld, kleinlangheim, gochsheim, castell and altenschonbach the singing friends had come to the multipurpose hall to celebrate with the prichsenstadter liederkranz 170 years of its existence.

The hosts and their chairman rudolf gertig had organized a tight, two-hour program for saturday evening, and even the ten-minute break was strictly observed. "We were allowed to be one of the oldest singing clubs – at least in lower franconia", gertig said at the beginning. In 1968 hermann schlobnagel took over the leadership of the choir for the 17 singers between 40 and 80 years of age. "Music is the most beautiful language in the world" – they sang it with conviction.

Representing the mayor, who was ill, alfons saugel said he was pleased that the hall was packed because it showed that songs unite. Pastor erich eybelein had brought along a special grubwort. Quoting from johann gottfried seume's "wo man singt, da lass" dich ruhig nieder" (where people sing, settle down quietly) . . . High above the clouds, there is bliss. . ." he continued in his own words "the sky remains high, so high, but dream, we can all do that . . ."

At least one could dream of the springtime. He was amply sung to with such wise tunes as "nun kehrt der fruhling ein" or "und wieder bluhet die linde" with the altenschonbacher sangern under the direction of erich zink. The kleinlangheimer gesangverein (directed by sigrid schmidtlein) sang about "may" and "the blooming world," the casteller mannergesangverein (directed by eva-maria ullrich) sang about "what glanzt im fruhling" (what shines in spring).

Waltzes and turners

The gochsheim dialect group, accompanied on the accordion by their chorus leader rainer verne, was outstanding and received much applause. Verne himself arranges the pieces and has set himself the goal of reviving church songs. With the "S"kunnerla" – "scho rund, scho dick und in der mitten scho zamme gflickt" began a "plan-tour", that is a waltz, a rheinlander and a dreher, explained rainer verne.

Last but not least, hermann schlobnagel told the audience what the "zelter plaque" is all about. It is awarded to a choral association by the federal president if it has existed for more than 100 years and has rendered outstanding services to the cultivation of choral music and folk song. The prichsenstadter liederkranz had been awarded the zelter plaque in 1967 by the then federal president heinrich lubke.
