The seblach advent market, which always takes place only on the first weekend of advent, cannot be compared with the christmas market in coburg, which lasts a whole four weeks. In view of the uncertain corona situation, however, the organizers in both towns are faced with the same tricky decision: whether to cancel or go through with it after all?
The tourism and culture committee met in seblach on tuesday evening. There it was decided that the advent market – after 2020 – will not take place this year either. "We decided to take this step after extensive discussion, it was not easy for us", mayor maximilian neeb is quoted in a press release. Third mayor carsten hollein (SPD), who is also the chairman of the committee, adds: "the necessary inspections and requirements make it almost impossible to hold the market."
Digital offer to help traders
In view of the current sharp rise in the number of corona infections, it cannot be ruled out that the current situation will lead to further restrictions in the coming weeks. However, a decision on the organization of the advent market had to be made now, as maria bruckner, who is responsible for tourism in the city of seblach, also points out. As bruckner explains, alternative possibilities have already been considered, especially for the trade and gastronomy in seblach, which will lose an important source of income due to the cancellation of the advent market. Among other things, there is to be a digital advent calendar in which traders can present their offers.
Meanwhile, in coburg, planning is still underway for a "real" november christmas market. He is scheduled to arrive on friday, 26.November, and will be open until thursday, 23. December, on the market square. However, the city council of jungst had already decided that the "3G plus" would not be held-regulation is applied. The stall area on the coburg market square will be fenced in; anyone who wants to enter must show at the two official entrance areas that they have been vaccinated, have recovered or have been PCR-tested. External security personnel will be hired for these entrance controls; the additional costs will be borne by coburg marketing as the organizer.
The tree arrives on monday
"We are in good spirits and do not see any need to cancel the christmas market at this time", said horst graf, the manager of coburg marketing, on wednesday in response to a tageblatt inquiry. Since there is in any case the fencing and also the admission controls, ubrigens could also apply the 2G rule without any problems, if this should become necessary.
The set-up of the coburg christmas market will start next monday, 15. November, started. The first thing to be done is to put up the christmas tree.
