Prado celebrates anniversary with goya show

To the 200. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its opening, the world-famous prado museum in madrid will show a rough special exhibition of more than 300 drawings by the spanish painter and graphic artist francisco de goya (1746-1828) starting tuesday.

The works come from numerous private and public collections around the world as well as from the prado itself. The show offers a "unique and unrepeatable opportunity" to trace goya’s entire oeuvre chronologically, from his early works and the italian sketchbook to the late drawings made in bordeaux during the last years of his life, the museum says.

With more than 8,600 paintings, drawings, prints and up to 700 sculptures, the exhibition that opened on 19. The prado, inaugurated on november 1819, is now one of the world’s largest and most important art museums. Together with the thyssen-bornemisza and reina sofia museums, it forms the "triangulo de oro", the "golden art triangle" in the center of madrid. On the occasion of the jubilee year there have been numerous exhibitions and conferences in more than 30 cities in spain. The goya show will remain open until 16. February 2020 open.
